APP Kicks off 50 Year History Project
On October 21, 2016 over 60 current and former members of the Association of Pittsburgh Priests (APP) celebrated 50 years of of the consistent practice, preaching and teaching of Vatican Council II and the Social Gospel of the Catholic Church. The event was held at Scotus Hall, Mount Alvernia, Millvale, PA.

The APP is a diocesan wide organization that for fifty years has organized and labored to spread the teaching of Vatican Council II and the social gospel of the Catholic Church in matters of peace, justice, racial and gender equality and in recent years, the environment. The APP includes both women and men; ordained and non-ordained, who answer their baptismal call to be priests, prophets and citizens of the kingdom of God. Our mission, rooted in the Gospel and Spirit of Vatican II, is to carry out a ministry of justice and renewal in ourselves, the Church and the world.

Art McDonald, a former Dominican priest and now a Unitarian Minister, provided an update on his the APP project of documenting the history of this important organization. Marcia Snowden coordinated the event and said, “The founders of the APP went into their ministries and the world to spread and live the Good News of inclusion, equality, openness, social justice and priesthood of all the baptized among the People of God. The teaching of Vatican II and the social teaching of the Church aren’t just something we studied and learned, it has become who we are. Today we celebrate all those who have sustained this vision over the last 50years.”
