Speaker Series. Follow up and evaluation of second speaker event with John Haught. 85 attendees. Suggestion that Jim’s article and John Haught’s slides be put on APP website. John Pillar will bring name tags for the last two talks

Thursday, November 9th: Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Professor, University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and author, candidate for public office, Lutheran, and pacifist. Topic: Faith in Violence: Religion is Killing Us”. Reach out to Christian Associates and promote in Lutheran circles. Other interested groups: GPIC, Christian Associates, Jewish Chronicle, LCA.
Thursday, December 7th, Bishop John Michael Botean, Bishop of the Sole US Eparchy for the Romanian Catholic Church and the Sole Eparchy outside of Romania. Topic: “Peacemaking”. Stress Christian Moral Relevance Today. John reported that Bishop Zubik was grateful to be asked to introduce Bishop Botean but he has confirmations that night. Joyce will talk with Liddy Barlow at Christian Associates about a noon time event on Dec. 8. (John, please check to see if the Bishop is open to staying through Friday afternoon.
Spring 2018:
Sunday, March 18th, 2018 Carol Zinn, SSJ. Topic: Choose the Way of the Gospel: Without Counting the Cost”. We will announce this program in the fall speakers’ series brochure.
A second Spring speaker, still under negotiation, is Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, a leading world economist and Director of Earth Institute at Columbia University. Fr. John will talk with him about a date between Feb. and April. John will ask him to reflect on Pope Francis and the Economy. He has a book on Sustainable Development. John is not getting a date from Jeffrey. Another idea is Jim Basic who could speaking on Pope Francis and his views on the economy.
We brainstormed for a possible second spring speaker: Mike Morrell (partner with Duquesne University). Fr. Jack Bendik from the St. Albert the Great consolidation. John will follow up.
Fall 2018
September 17, 2018 Megan McKenna – Megan is interested in speaking to other groups while in Pittsburgh. Eileen will check with Carlow University.
